High Street Hostel is Edinburgh’s original independent backpackers hostel, (open since 1985). Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town just off the historical Royal Mile, (midway between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace). The 400yr old building offers lots of character as well as offering a fun chilled out atmosphere for the weary traveller.

Located centrally we are only 5-10 minutes from the Edinburgh castle, Princes Street, Waverley train Station, the bus station, Holyrood Palace and the Grassmarket. The City’s wonderful night life also just round the corner.

Your room is cleaned daily, with a personal locker in most rooms including a safe for your piece of mind. Otherwise you have access to the receptions 24 hour safe. Our large self-catering kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need.

We have free wi-fi in our reception lounge, and internet access for a small charge. Our large lounge area enables you to sit and relax, chat with the travellers, or even have a game of pool.

Our friendly staff are always willing to answer questions about things to do in and around Edinburgh and Scotland. We are also able to help you book accommodation in one of our other hostels throughout Scotland. We are a Macbackpackers tour pick up and sale point.

Please note that our Check in time is not until 2pm, however you are most welcome to drop your bags off earlier and still use our facilities.

We also try our best to re-cycle everything (with your help) and our electricity is all sourced from renewable non-nuclear supplies. There is a bus every 10 -15 minutes from the airport. From there walk away from Princes St. towards a small roundabout and cross straight over the roundabout onto Cockburn Street. At the top of Cockburn Street turn left onto the High Street on the Royal Mile and then cross over the traffic lights at Northbridge, continuing down the hill, we're the second street on the right - Blackfriars Street. We're on your right hand side. Directions - Bus Station From the bus station at St Andrews Square head up to Princes Street (the main shopping street in Edinburgh.) Turn left onto Princes Street and then take the first right at the Balmoral Hotel onto Northbridge. At the top turn left at the Royal Bank of Scotland onto the High Street on the Royal Mile, crossing at the traffic lights but continuing down the hill, we're the second street on the right - Blackfriars Street.
